The Ollech & Wajs C-1000 A – marks the 60th anniversary of the first 1000 m dive watch.

In 1964 the Ollech & Wajs Precision Caribbean 1000 set the standard by which all other dive watches would be measured with a certified record-shattering depth rating of 1,000m (3,300ft). The single biggest leap forwards in the evolution of the dive watch was thanks partly to the revolutionary 702 mono-block case with its distinctive pointed lugs.

It was worn by commercial and military divers and tested by ocean explorers in the Red Sea, the North Atlantic and under the frozen Arctic ice pack. To mark 60 years since the Caribbean 1000 entered dive watch folklore we have created a special C-1000 Edition that reinterprets several design features of the iconic inaugural reference.

The 60th Anniversary C-1000 A evokes the unmistakable abbreviated triangular lugs, affectionately referred to as ‘Vampire fangs’ by collectors. Caribbean 1000 enthusiasts will also appreciate the familiar tapered hour and minutes hands and the 12 hour uni-directional bezel with 20 minute diver’s scale, also inspired by the original. The C-1000 A is just as impermeable as its antecedent though thanks to advancements in materials and manufacturing it achieves this with the convenience of a screw down case back.

FULL DESCRIPTION

The C-1000 A is powered by the landmark Swiss made OW Soprod Newton Precision P092, the result of a close collaboration between OW and the Jura based movement maker. We also offer an upgraded COSC-certified version of this movement. A COSC-certified movement is one that has passed accuracy tests by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC), the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute. First of all we select, match and assemble the very best components and our own specialist horologer tests each movement to ensure that only those that perform with least variance are submitted to COSC. The certification process itself involves rigorous testing over 15 days, during which each movement is evaluated across various positions and temperatures to ensure it maintains a precise daily rate. Each chronometer certified movement receives an individual serial number and a certificate from COSC. This unique certification serial number is engraved onto the mainplate of each movement, assuring that it has undergone and passed the stringent testing. A C-1000 A fitted with a COSC movement will also have a specially engraved crown to denote its chronometer status.

It is presented on a distinctive cadmium yellow nylon RAF style strap in reference to the yellow trim wetsuits worn by intrepid scuba divers in the 60s, including Ollech & Wajs test divers Alberto Novelli and Cesare Olgjai.

The M-Heritage stainless steel mesh bracelet can be purchased as an accessory for an additional 126 CHF. 

This special commemorative watch comes with a handmade soft black leather travel pouch embossed with the OW logo.
